Child Therapy in Keller - Fort Worth, TX

Child Counseling Services

Child therapy (or child counseling) encompasses a wide range of therapeutic approaches designed to address children's emotional, behavioral, and psychological needs. If you think your child needs support but are uncertain where to start, we can help. We can assist you in identifying what type of therapy and approach would suit your child's needs.

All of our child therapists specialize in working with children.

We utilize various evidence-based approaches to help kids struggling with issues such as anxiety, anger problems, sadness, behavior challenges, and difficulty with emotional regulation. In therapy, we help children express themselves, explore their feelings, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Here are some of the types of child therapy that we use at Reach Counseling to help kids and families:

  1. Play Therapy

Play therapy is a widely used therapeutic approach for children. It allows children to communicate and express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences through their natural language of play. Therapists provide a safe and structured play environment where children can engage in creative and symbolic play, which helps them process difficult experiences, improve self-regulation, and enhance their social and emotional skills. 2. Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive Arts therapy involves using various art materials and creative techniques to facilitate self-expression and emotional healing. Children can use drawing, painting, sculpting, or other art forms to communicate their thoughts and feelings. Art therapy can particularly benefit children struggling to verbalize their emotions or traumatic experiences.

  3. Activities-Based Therapy

This therapy approach combines play-based techniques and utilizes therapeutic games and activities. It takes off the pressure to “talk” while helping them to learn about topics such as emotions, communication, coping skills, handling conflict, and much more.

  4. Sand Tray Therapy

Sand tray therapy is a form of expressive therapy that utilizes a tray or box filled with sand and various miniature figures or objects. It gives children a non-verbal and creative outlet to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Through manipulating the sand and placing objects, children can communicate and process their inner world in a safe and supportive environment.

  5. Family Therapy

Family therapy involves working with the entire family unit to address relational dynamics and improve communication and problem-solving skills. Family interactions often influence children's emotional well-being, and family therapy can help identify and resolve conflicts, enhance family support, and create a more nurturing environment for the child.

  6. Parent Training

Child-Parent Relationship Training or Filial therapy involves training parents or caregivers to be therapeutic agents for their children. Therapists teach parents specific play therapy techniques they can use at home to enhance the parent-child relationship, improve communication, and support their child's emotional well-being. Filial therapy empowers parents and promotes long-term positive changes within the family system.

  7. AutPlay® Therapy

AutPlay® Therapy is a neurodivergent-affirming therapy for kids and teens. AutPlay® is a family play therapy approach that addresses the mental health needs of individuals. It includes targeted interventions tailored to the client’s needs that focus on emotional regulation, social skills navigation, and connection-building. Learn more about AutPlay® Therapy.

  8. Trust-Based Relational Interventions

TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children who have experienced adversity, early harm, toxic stress, and trauma. TBRI® offers practical tools for parents and caregivers to see the “whole child” in their care and help that child reach his highest potential.

It's important to note that the therapy approach may vary depending on your child's age, developmental stage, and specific needs.

Our therapists customize their interventions to suit the child's circumstances, ensuring the most effective and appropriate treatment.

We also believe in partnering with parents and providing the support you need to help your child. We provide regular parent consultations to keep you up-to-date with your child’s progress in therapy.
