Free Virtual Training for Therapists and School Counselors

Cutting Through the Pain
Non-Suicidal Self- Injury: Understand the Why and Responding with Confidence

Wednesday, October 21 | 12:00 to 1:00 PM Central | Live on Zoom | Free, 1 CEU available

Self-injury is one of the hardest things to walk into as a counselor. A teen shows you their arm, or a teacher pulls you aside, and suddenly you're making fast decisions about safety, parent contact, and what to say next. It's easy to second-guess all of it.

This free one-hour training is a practical look at what's actually driving the behavior and how to respond with more confidence the next time it shows up in your office.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Wendy Helmcamp, PhD, LPC-S

Dr. Helmcamp is Associate Professor and Chair of the Counseling Program at Midwestern State University. She spent 14 years as a school counselor before moving into higher education, and her research focuses on non-suicidal self-injury and mental health in schools.

What we will cover

NSSI can leave counselors uncertain about what to say, what to ask, and how to tell self-injury apart from suicidal behavior. Join us for a practical lunch-hour conversation on the “why” behind the behavior, common misconceptions, risk assessment, and counseling responses you can use the same week.

Who this is for

School counselors, LPCs, LPC Associates, LMSWs, LCSWs, and anyone working with students who self-injure. Come on your lunch hour. Bring your questions.

CE credit

One CE hour is available at no cost. To receive credit you'll need to attend the full session, join using the name you registered with, and complete a short evaluation afterward. Certificates are emailed within 5 business days.
